Testimonials

Jim’s place fosters inspiration. It’s deliberately, but low-key multi-purpose: it could be a gallery; a dance or drama space; a cool somewhere to write your magnum opus. A comfortable bed, a well-appointed kitchen, books everywhere. All you need to do is bring your brain – and, of course, a pen and paper.

Jim creates a safe, non-judgemental space in which you can feel focussed and comfortably creative. He doesn’t push or pressurise, he makes the whole process fun and inventive. He loves writing, loves writers and loves to help writers write.
Dave Kurley

I signed up for Jim’s workshop as a complete rookie. I’d never really thought of myself as a writer and wasn’t entirely convinced I belonged there.

After a handful of sessions, I found myself looking forward to them and thinking about story ideas when I wasn’t there. That’s probably the highest compliment I can give.

Jim makes writing feel accessible without making it feel easy. The prompts get you started, the feedback keeps you going, and somehow you end up writing more than you thought you could.

I’m not saying I’ve become a writer. But for the first time, I’m wondering if I might have one in me somewhere.
Niall King

I have attended a great number of workshops and writing groups led and organized by Jim, who is a truly exceptional facilitator. Not only does he manage and organize activities in an engaging way, he has an excellent quality for understanding how to adapt the workshop as he gets to know the people attending. The prompts and activities are fun, but more importantly, they really get me writing.

I feel like since working with Jim my writing abilities have been unleashed and I have developed a strong practice. He also really helped me understand where I can improve and how to write to my strengths. I look forward to participating in many more of his workshops in the future!
Dixon Bordiano

Jim is great at encouraging writers to share their work, and coming up with interesting writing exercises.
